Moldova

Moldova, one of the smallest and poorest countries in Europe has struggled since the fall of the Sovjet empire to find its way out of the many political, economic and social problems affecting the country. A significant percentage of the population work abroad, state institutions are ineffective and in many cases corrupt and there are huge problems with poverty, especially in the rural areas, which are predominant in the country.

Even after the fall of the Sovjet empire, the country was ruled by a communist government until 2009, when a pro-european, center-liberal coalition took over. Tha main goals of the new leadership is to conduct the necessary reforms of the state, judiciary and of the economic and social system, in order to bring the country closer to European standards.

KIC has been supporting different democracy and capacity building projects since 2005 and aims to continue this work on a broader level during the next years.
